What Is Pediatric Websm?
A:
Pediatric Websm is a unique, professionally designed, peer-reviewed web site for use by patients and families. Created by pediatricians and parents, Pediatric Websm offers a dynamic online resource focusing on the health and well-being of children. Pediatric Websm is a national program for pediatricians and family physicians offering 24-hour access to helpful and reliable information to families. The site is free to physicians and patients and generates valuable funding for selected children's non-profit organizations. Pediatric Websm is not a doctor and cannot replace the doctor or parent in meeting the health needs of the child. It is also evolving. If you see ways to improve Pediatric Websm, please volunteer your suggestions for the benefit of all users and their children.

Q:
What makes Pediatric Websm different from other Internet health sites?
A:
We believe there are at least two major differences:
- Pediatric Websm offers effective and accurate pediatric health information through an attractive, easy-to-use web site at little or no cost to the pediatrician and the families served. They get trustworthy medical articles and acute care information written by leading authorities in their areas of specialty.
- Pediatric Websm is committed to supporting all areas of children's health care. Every time the local pediatric practice or its families use the site or purchase products and services through the online shopping center, money is raised to support a non-profit organization bettering children's health.

Q:

Why are Pediatric Web's Medical Articles Peer-Reviewed?
A:
Parents are now using general search engines to locate information about their child's health. Unfortunately, some of this information is misleading, unverifiable, or simply inaccurate. Pediatric Websm has identified leading authorities and their colleagues for many common pediatric conditions. These individuals write about the condition and update the data yearly through a secure site. Articles and information are reviewed for accuracy and content by other selected physicians. A peer-review process aids in bringing you accurate and reliable information.

Q:
Why is there advertising on Pediatric Websm?
A:
Pediatric Web, Inc. has two primary objectives:
- To create an online presence for individual pediatric practices, using well-respected national authorities to provide superior content at little or no cost to the pediatrician and his or her patients' families.
- To collaborate with corporate sponsors/advertisers to raise money for children's health and Children's Hospitals in an easy, transparent way whenever parents log onto their physician's site or purchases an item from our Marketplace.
Pediatric Web, Inc. cannot meet these objectives without collaborating with corporations who are seeking ways to give back to their communities. These carefully selected commercial partners will help to support and sustain the funding of select children's charities. If you are going to make purchases online, why not make a difference for kids?
Pediatric Web's ability to deliver accurate and credible healthcare information to consumers free of charge depends upon sustaining a viable business model and ongoing revenue sources, including advertising and sponsorships. Pediatric Web will accept appropriate advertising and sponsorship, but will not endorse prescription medical products to families.

Q:
How does Pediatric Websm contribute to children's charities?
A:
Local physicans are collaborating with Pediatric Web to support children's charities and local children's hospitals. Merchants that participate in our affiliate program donate a percentage of sales and click-through commissions to selected non-profit organizations. In addition, Pediatric Web has designed each physician's site so that parents may use it as their Start Page. Each time a parent logs onto the site, a portion of the advertising revenue goes to support children's health. If you are going to log onto the Internet, why not support research for some of the most devastating childhood illnesses? The physician members of the Pediatric Web network do not receive commissions or fees as a result of online sales via our affiliates. Once a calendar year's combined donations exceed a set goal (e.g., $2 million in 2000 and in 2001), the donation rate is reduced 50% for the remainder of the year. In this manner, the growth in use of Pediatric Web is beneficial to children, doctors, parents/guardians, and national children's charities as well as Pediatric Web, Inc. and its employees.

Q:
What are the selected children's non-profit organizations?
A:
For now, Pediatric Web, Inc. has selected Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the March of Dimes. In some cases, a local Children's Hospital may work with Pediatric Web, Inc. to serve as the supported charity for affiliated pediatric practices. One or two other national charities seeking to improve children's health may be added in the future. From these, the web site user chooses which charity to support when they shop online.
